THE MOVING HOUSE CHECKLIST: SIMPLIFIED WEEK BY WEEK!

THE MOVING HOUSE CHECKLIST: SIMPLIFIED WEEK BY WEEK!

Moving from one location to another for first-time homeowners could be overwhelming. Many hassles go with the process of arranging moving or transport services. There will always be risks of unnecessary spending and big losses due to items getting damaged while in transit. Many seasoned homeowners will agree that getting things organized weeks before moving out could solve these possible dilemmas.

The moving house checklist presented here will cover the items that should be prepared and the tasks that should be done by a homeowner before moving. The details are presented weekly, assuming the moving date is two months away. The following should cover the basics for a homeowner who will move to a new house for the first time:

• 8 WEEKS

“Master Moving Folder” will contain all the files related to the moving task. All the plans, lists, receipts, and related materials should be placed here.

The budget plan lists all the possible expenses you would need to deal with in the weeks leading up to the big day. Seeing its contents would allow you to plan the task at hand.

Lists include the list of possible moving companies to hire and their respective service quotes. The list could also have an initial rundown of the items to be moved, materials to be used in the packing process, and food items that need to be gradually consumed before moving day.

 • 6 WEEKS

Notice letter – This is for your landlord if you are moving out of a rented dwelling. Informing the said individual of the moving plan at this point will provide a valuable lead time for the processing of the necessary papers and settlement of outstanding accounts on the part of the tenant.

New furniture – If there is a need for new furniture in the new house, these should be purchased and stored at this point.

Work leave application – If possible, file for a leave of absence that will coincide with the moving day. Timing your moving day on a Friday or the day before a national holiday is highly recommended.

• 4 WEEKS

Moving service contract – At this stage, copies of the aforementioned contract should have been signed and given to each party. It indicates that the relocating date is already set in stone and that all plans must consider this.

Notices and letters to suppliers of essential services, such as those that offer insurance, gas, water, and electricity, are just a few examples. These providers can alter bills and pay any outstanding invoices associated with your former mailing address by sending out these reminders well in advance.

Postal Form for Address Adjustment – Please include the new address. After moving in, this will make it easier for communications and bill statements to arrive without issue. It must be set up now if you intend to complete the written form and mail it to the nearby post office.

• 2 WEEKS

Notification for providers of subscribed/miscellaneous services – This is for a different set of providers other than those already mentioned. These include your bank and your local hospital or clinic.

Address Cards – These should contain the address of the new house. It could be distributed at this point. Friends, relatives, and others needing to maintain contact with you after moving out should have these cards.

A list of the future occupant of the house to be vacated – Aside from the keys, this list could be given to your landlord or the real estate agent who will entertain potential occupants. It should contain helpful information for them.

• THE NIGHT BEFORE

Ensure each family member has toiletries, extra clothing, and other necessities packed in their individual essentials backpack.

Kitchen essentials box or bag: It should include everything needed to prepare a full meal once at the location.

Items required for quick cleaning should go in the cleaning/handyman box or bag. You’ll be able to settle in more quickly because there’s a chance you’ll arrive at your new home before the moving van or vehicle.

This moving home checklist should make things easier and less stressful for you. Using it as a guide, the task of moving out could be finished quickly, and any possible issues would be fixed before they worsened.
